Cinefilmu is annual film festival organized by TDM5 and Mamá Papaya with installations by YAYASAGA that welcomes visionary BIPOC filmmakers and storytellers to a community focused celebration of the our stories and cultures.
It is an immersive space to celebrate and pay homage to our cultural heritages and histories. The festival counters the decades of erasure and neglect of underrepresented narratives.
We are connected by a shared language of migration, histories of colonialism, ancestral practices, and a rich tapestry of cultural expression.
The festival’s name itself— combining “cine” (Spanish word for “film”) and “filmu” (Yoruba pronunciation for “film”) reflects our commitment to intra-cultural creativity and collaboration.
The free and open to the public event showcases the powerful and brilliant cultural stories from immigrants, Black, Indigenous, Hmong, Somali, Latine, and the many peoples in our neighborhoods.
